Our first time together at The Drill in Lincoln on a school night was nothing short of memorable! Seeing two of Matthew’s teachers in the crowd added a touch of recognition to his work and earned him a couple of high-fives the next day—a nice bonus to an already incredible night! Saturday 31st August saw me visiting family in Southampton and my Dad had purchased a ticket to see one of his favourite bands Ugly Kid Joe at the Southampton 1865, a venue I had shot in before and have always made to feel welcome for someone so young. To read more click here
As ever a pleasure to cover this event. This year Matthew was part of the press team and I volunteered too. It was a great couple of days. Click here to access the photos.
With just over a week to go before we return for our 3rd year at the event, I just wanted to highlight what you get as a family.
Everything is within eyesight, stages, food vendors, sellers, games, the bar and toilets. Being a parent of 4 and having taken my children to Download (and lost 1 a couple of times) I cannot stress enough how great the layout is.
With both parents and children alike being able to enjoy the event with camping available starting 10 meters from the arena entrance and the car park a further 15 meters from the campsite, it is the best.

On a recent Sunday evening, the 1865 venue in Southampton became a time machine, whisking us back to our youthful days filled with nostalgia, music, and infectious energy. The night belonged to two iconic bands, Terrorvision and A, who took us on a journey through their hits and even offered a glimpse into the future with announcements of new music…..click here for review and photos.
After a year gap due to our Australia adventure last year, we returned excitedly to the Newark Showground for Stonedead 2023. With field accreditation in hand, we arrived on Friday night and just as we had 4 pegs and the poles in the tent the heavens opened!
But then all was calm with only a few showers over the weekend with lots of sunshine Matthew and I had an amazing time, photographing the bands, and catching up with friends and the event organisers who as always made everyone feel loved and involved. What follows are Matthew’s photos of the event…..As ever he rocked, whilst I (Dad) was in charge of the camera bags and monies for food and drink 🙂 Click here for his photos and comments
This Saturday 15th July 2023 at the Sheffield Corporation the Little Rockers will be in attendance to support and be part of the fitting party/tribute to our beloved friend Tina Sherwood. Although we only knew her for a short while, she had a massive impact on us as a family with her guidance and support for Matthew and also keeping in touch as we travelled last summer. This event will raise monies for 2 charities selected by the family and we cannot wait to capture the event in her honour – if you are free on Saturday come and join us, it’s going to be a day to remember! Tickets are available in advance https://corporation.org.uk/event/destination-2023/ and at the door. Mark
(more photos still to be uploaded) Back to the festival that it all began for us in 2022….on our doorstep this amazingly friendly, all-age metal and rock festival again delivered for us all as a family of 6! Click here to read and find the photos
Our first festival of 2023 saw Matthew reconnect with his mentor from the Call of the Wild festival (Mark Ellis – venue photographer) at the Nightrain in Bradford, a new venue for me.
Wow, what a great day, band after band came, kicked ass, and were all photographed by Matthew who within this environment is very mature, leading to some great shots and interaction between the artists and himself. Very proud he got to shoot Phil Campbell from Motorhead and Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons. Click here to read more
We have just heard of Tina’s passing and as a family, we are all gutted. We first met Tina at the Call of the Wild festival and as you can see from the photo she struck a very nice bond with Matthew at the festival over the following 3 days, and always gave me a glowing report on his behavior when we caught up each day. She genuinely cared for and helped nurture him at the festival.
When we went on our 7-week adventure during the summer, she was always commenting on our blogs/posts, and was always very positive about the children’s writing and our photos.
When I (Dad) went to see Ugly Kid Joe at Nottingham Rock City in October I spotted TIna taking shots and I grabbed five minutes with her when she left the pit. I would never have normally done this with most people but I genuinely thought she was a lovely lady and I wanted to say hi and thank her for her comments whilst we were away. She immediately knew who I was and commented about our adventure, and asked after the family and Matthew, it was nice to catch up and she had such a lovely attitude and personality, as all who knew her would agree.
So tonight, when I read Facebook and comments on several people’s posts who were all in shock and who all said the same things about how wonderful Tina was, I then had to tell Matthew…..his face was sad with a couple of tears and Lucy was also shocked as she had also communicated with Tina since the festival and our summer adventure.
Although we only just met her this year, she has had a positive and lasting effect on us all as a family.
Tina; shine brightly up there, take lots of photos, and keep on inspiring people. We will always remember you. RIP
